Utah Liquor Laws

Utah may have a reputation for some strange liquor laws, but honestly, things aren't as bad as people assume.

On Tap: 4% ABV

Unfortunately all draft beers found in Utah are required to be no more than 4% ABV. Utah breweries however, have embraced this constraint, and created some amazing beers that focus on flavor rather than ABV. You can find 4% brews in grocery stores, however, higher ABV beers can be found in state-run liquor stores.

In Bottles: Over 4% ABV

Anything goes in bottles. Utah actually has a pretty great selection of higher ABV beers - available in bars and restaurants in a bottle. Beer over 4% ABV can also be found throughout Utah liquor stores.

Liquors and Mixed Drinks

For non-beer drinkers, Utah allows you to have "1 drink" at a time - 1 unit of alcohol. Sadly, this means you can't ask your bartender to "make it strong." You'll get 1 (1.5oz) shot of 40% liquor at a time (whether as a shot or in a mixed beverage), or 6oz of wine.
